OptiMist Nebulizer installed in a Thermo Scientific iCAP 6000 Series Radial ICP

A picture is worth 1,000 words – and so here we have a shot of our OptiMist nebulizer installed into a Radial iCAP 6000 series ICP.  Note how it is installed into the cyclonic spray chamber with the Argon gas line pointing down.  This is important as it assures the tip of the nebulizer is properly aligned and will work optimally.  Other than that, installing the OptiMist is about as straight forward as it gets.

Optimum precision is achieved with a sample uptake flow of approximately 2.0 mL/min.  On a Thermo iCAP this is usually done with white-white peristaltic pump tubing for the sample uptake.   Running the nebulizer at lower flows is possible, even below 1 mL/min, but the RSDs will be slightly higher since the the OptiMist will be “starving” for the sample.
